hello I am a year 10 student called Hamish in science we are currently learning about mutations.
How they are caused buy mutagens (a fancy way of saying a substance that causes mutations):
- a chemical substance most of the time it is ethyl, methanesulfonate or N-ethyl-N-nitrosourea. (stupid names I know).
- radiation of some type it could: be toxic waste, x-rays or UV rays.
- natural mutations their naturally caused by a base type being removed when there developing in their mother.
now we know what will cause mutations now we ask the question HOW well ether a base sequence is removed or added or the animal produces more alleles than it needs to
mutations can be harmful or not harmful like a fox developing its white coat in snow or bloodhounds acute sense of smell
an example of a negative side effect is cancer in us humans or sickle cell disease it really is a random pick of what mutation your going to get
to be honest if I was studying mutations I would make a cure for cancer which would save millions of lifes
peace out
